Glen Alps was head of the University of Washington Printmaking Department, and taught there between 1949 and 1978. He is accredited with inventing the callograph technique of printmaking. Glen designed and fabricated about 30 of these very durable presses over his lifetime. The original two are still in use at the University after 50 years of hard use. This was one of the last presses made while Glen was still alive. It has had very little use and has been stored in a heated space. I built a birdseye maple yoke over the chain adjustment for the top roller to protect the printing felts. This would be an ideal press for monoprint application or editioning due to its large size and ease of operation.
